Compatibility

Review how Compass Pro works across desktops, tablets, Chromebooks, mobile devices, clinical imaging workflows, document capture, scanners, and cloud-based access.

Compatibility Overview

What does Compass Pro run on?

Compass Pro runs entirely in the cloud. Practices do not need local servers or local deployments for standard system access.

Users can access Compass Pro through supported browsers on Windows, macOS, Chromebooks, Android tablets, iPads, iPhones, and other compatible devices. The device choice mainly affects how documents, images, and scanner-based workflows are captured and uploaded.

Best device strategy for most practices
  • Use desktops or laptops for scanner-intensive workstations, batch scanning, and direct Dynamic Web TWAIN workflows.
  • Use Chromebooks or Android tablets for front desk, scheduling, EMR review, billing, patient portal access, and camera/file-upload workflows.
  • Use iPads or iPhones for mobility, telehealth, patient-facing workflows, camera capture, image review, and lightweight clinical or administrative access.

Clinical Imaging

Clinical imaging support
  • DICOM/PACS integration for radiology, orthodontic imaging, and dental imaging workflows.
  • HL7/FHIR standards support for EMR/EHR interoperability.
  • Cloud viewer support for annotation, measurement, and collaboration.
  • Image access from desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.
Can mobile devices review clinical images?

Yes. Desktops can provide full clinical imaging support, while Chromebooks, Android tablets, and iOS/iPadOS devices can be used to view and annotate images where supported by the workflow.

Document Capture

Document capture with Dynamic Web TWAIN

For direct scanner workflows, Compass Pro supports Dynamic Web TWAIN on Windows, macOS, and Linux when the Dynamsoft Service is installed.

This setup is recommended for workstations that need direct TWAIN, WIA, ICA, or SANE scanning support.

Document capture on Chromebooks, Android, and iOS

Chromebooks, Android tablets, iPhones, and iPads can capture documents using device cameras or by uploading pre-scanned files from network, cloud, or external scanning workflows.

Supported upload formats include JPEG, PDF, TIFF, and PNG.

Scanning Workflows

Which devices should be used for scanning?

Scanner-intensive tasks are best handled by Windows, macOS, or Linux desktops using Dynamic Web TWAIN with the Dynamsoft Service installed.

High-volume batch scanning and digital signature pad workflows are best planned around desktop workstations.

How can tablet-heavy practices handle scanning?

Tablet-heavy practices can use device cameras, file upload, or cloud/network scanners for document intake. A dedicated desktop scanning station can also be used when direct scanner integration is needed.

Mobility

Best workflows for Chromebooks and Android tablets

Chromebooks and Android tablets are well suited for front desk workflows, scheduling, EMR review, billing, reporting, patient portal access, and camera or file-upload document capture.

Best workflows for iPads and iPhones

iPads and iPhones are useful for telehealth, mobility, patient-facing workflows, document camera capture, image review, annotation, and upload workflows.

Security

How are imaging and capture workflows protected?
  • Imaging data is stored in the Compass Pro cloud with role-based access for staff.
  • Imaging workflows are protected with TLS 1.2+ and AES-256 encryption.
  • Audit logs support HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR compliance positioning.
  • Local cache is cleared automatically after uploads.
