Requirements

Requirements

Compass Pro is delivered as a cloud-based SaaS platform. No on-premises server is required, and practices can access the system securely through modern browsers on supported devices.

Requirements Overview

What does a practice need to run Compass Pro?

Compass Pro is delivered as a 100% SaaS platform. Practices do not need to install servers or databases on-site.

Most teams only need reliable internet access, supported devices, and modern web browsers. Desktops or laptops are recommended for advanced workflows such as X-ray, document scanning, or scanner-intensive operations.

Recommended setup at a glance
  • Modern desktop, laptop, Chromebook, tablet, or mobile device.
  • Current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
  • Reliable broadband internet connection.
  • Desktop operating system for direct TWAIN/WIA/ICA/SANE/eSCL scanning workflows.
  • Camera capture or file upload for tablet, Chromebook, Android, and iOS workflows.

System Requirements

Supported operating systems
  • Windows: Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server 2016 or newer.
  • macOS: macOS 10.14 Mojave and later.
  • Linux: Ubuntu 18.04+, Debian 10+, CentOS 7+, and Fedora 30+.
  • Mobile devices: Android 9.0+, latest ChromeOS, and iOS 13+.
Does Compass Pro require an office server?

No. Compass Pro is a cloud-based SaaS platform. No local server, local database, or on-premises application server is required for standard use.

This helps reduce IT overhead while allowing continuous updates, scalability, and secure browser-based access.

Hardware Requirements

Desktops and laptops

Desktops and laptops are recommended for advanced workflows, X-ray workflows, document scanning, and scanner-intensive workstations.

  • CPU: Intel Core i5+ or AMD Ryzen 5+.
  • RAM: 8–16 GB recommended.
  • Storage: SSD storage, 256 GB or more.
  • Display: Dual monitors recommended for higher-productivity workstations.
  • Scanning: Dynamsoft Service installed when scanning is required.
Chromebooks and Android tablets
  • CPU: Intel N-series, ARM Cortex A73+, or Snapdragon 8xx+.
  • RAM: 4 GB minimum; 8 GB preferred.
  • Storage: 64 GB+ or cloud storage.
  • Display: 10-inch or larger 1080p screen recommended.
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 5/6; LTE/5G optional.
iPads and iPhones
  • Operating system: iOS 13 or newer.
  • Browser: Safari or Chrome for Compass Pro access.
  • Best use cases: Telehealth, patient portal, mobile EMR access, camera capture, and lightweight clinical or administrative workflows.

Browsers

Supported browsers
  • Google Chrome, latest three versions.
  • Microsoft Edge, Chromium-based version.
  • Firefox ESR or latest version.
  • Safari on macOS and iOS.
Unsupported browsers

Internet Explorer and legacy browsers are not supported.

Tablets & Chromebooks

Can Compass Pro run on tablets and Chromebooks?

Yes. Compass Pro modules such as Patient Management, Billing, Scheduling, Analytics, and Patient Portal can be accessed directly through the browser. Touch-friendly screens can support tablet and Chromebook workflows.

What are the scanning limitations on tablets and Chromebooks?

Direct hardware scanning with Dynamic Web TWAIN requires a Windows, macOS, or Linux desktop with the Dynamsoft Service installed.

Tablets, Chromebooks, Android devices, and iOS devices can use built-in cameras, file uploads, or files from network/cloud scanners instead.

Scanners & Capture Devices

Supported scanner workflows
  • Windows, macOS, Linux: TWAIN, WIA, ICA, SANE, and eSCL via Dynamic Web TWAIN and Dynamsoft Service.
  • Chromebooks, Android, iOS: Camera capture and file uploads. TWAIN drivers are not supported on these devices.
  • Cloud or network scanners: Recommended for practices using tablets or Chromebooks.
Recommended scanner workstation approach

Practices can run Compass Pro in a zero-deployment SaaS environment while selectively using desktops for scanner-intensive workflows. This gives teams flexibility: tablets and Chromebooks can be used for general access, while desktops can support direct scanner workflows when required.

Networking & Security

Networking requirements
  • No VPN is required for standard access, although VPN use is supported where required by a practice or organization.
  • A reliable internet connection is recommended for all workstations and mobile devices.
  • Wi-Fi 5/6 is recommended for mobile and tablet-heavy workflows.
Security requirements and protections
  • TLS 1.2+ / AES-256 encryption for traffic.
  • Multi-factor authentication.
  • HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR compliance positioning.
